When shopping for sofas, one of the things to be highly considered is the type of sofa back style of the furniture. This is important because sofa back styles dictate whether the user will be comfortable in using it or not. There are couple of styles that can cater to different needs and preferences of buyers. These are the tight back, attached pillow back, and multi-pillow backed sofas. Tight-backed sofas are perfect for the type of people who prefers sitting up straight for long periods of time. Sofa backs like this are neatly tailored and are often packed with firm fillings so the need of constantly straightening out cushions is not a problem. Tight-backed sofas are commonly used as the seats in libraries, home reading rooms and offices because of their formal look and feel.

Loose pillow backed sofas, on the other hand, are the exact opposites of the first type because they come with large pillows. Their pillows come in zippered coverings so they can be constantly changed and washed. Pillows of this type of sofa can either be soft or firm to fit the preferences of the user. This type of sofa is perfect for living room use where the family prefers to just lazily recline and rest. One advantage of loose pillow backed sofas is that the person can change the positions and arrangement of the pillows depending on his liking.

The third type of sofa back style is the attached pillow back. This is a crossover between the tight-back and loose back and perfect for those who love the softness and comfort of pillows but do not want the hassle of constantly straightening them out. This style of sofa is not too hard and uptight like the tight-backed style but is not too carefree and casual like the loose pillow type. Sofas with attached pillows are best used as waiting sofas in offices because they do not pose the hassle of pillows dirtying up fast while still provides comfort.

The last type of sofa back style is the multi-pillow back that comes with more pillows than the loose pillow back type. Unlike loose backed styles that can have a variety of softness of pillows, the pillows of multi-pillow backed sofas are all soft and are usually larger. They are also composed of more loose fillings and are commonly overstuffed. This type of sofa back is commonly used in trendy offices and homes because their pillows can also add up to the style of the house just by simply changing their covers. The only disadvantage of this type of sofa back is that it needs more maintenance because of the many pillow covers you have to wash.

In choosing for the sofa back style, the texture and quality of the sofa should also be considered. Choosing sofas made with easy to wash materials is important because even though there are certain types that do not have pillows to wash, the sofa back should still be cleaned at least once a year.
